Overview:

Ratio analysis provides a way of summarizing a large volume of accounting information into simple financial measurements. Ratios can be used to monitor a firm's financial performance compared to previous accounting periods, or may be used to check how well the firm is doing compared to its competitors. No single ratio, however, will provide a complete overview of a firm's financial health, or serve all types of users of financial statements – they need to be blended together to give an overall picture of the firm's financial health.

Financial Statements - Ratio Analysis defines the various types of financial ratios within their category – profitability, liquidity, investor, gearing and efficiency – shows their uses and how they are computed.

A reasonable level of arithmetical ability is assumed.
